Ratings

I use Media Monkey as my media player, and over the years, my ratings had slid toward the top end of the scale. I would mark songs that I wanted for the podcast with 4.5 or 5 stars. I rated any other song that I really liked with five stars. I finally ended up making a playlist called "6 stars" for the songs I really really liked. On the flip side, in moving from WinAmp to iTunes to Media Monkey, I had lost a lot of ratings, so there were songs that I really loved that disappeared into the black hole that is my music collection.

When I decided to make a list of my favorite songs, it was clear that this screwed up rating scheme was not going to work. I scribbled down a new rating system on a little scrap of paper, and since the end of August 2019, this has been my rating scheme:

• 1 star: delete
• 2 stars: keep for reference
• 3 stars: okay/pleasant enough
• 4 stars: enjoy
• 5 stars: best

Now that I have written it down, I can finally get rid of that little scrap of paper!
