This is my ranked list of favorite songs from 2019. Now, you may look at this and wonder what the hell I was thinking, so let me give you a little bit of information. This isn't actually my list for all of 2019. I saw a ranked list of albums by a friend (Gregory Michael Davis, whose music I really like) and decided that I wanted to make a ranked list of songs. However, my current rating system in my music player didn't work for this, as it had gotten pretty screwed up and five stars no long really represented my absolutely favorite songs. So, I redid my rating scheme.
At the end of August, I started re-rating songs that I listened to. I still listen to a lot of music for the podcast, which means that I don't actually spend a lot of time listening to songs from my music collection. The ranked list I have here is from the 5 star rated songs from the end of August through the end of 2019.
I try to be pretty upfront that I don't have super sophisticated musical tastes. That having been said, some of the songs on the list are still pretty strange. The reason is that I chose a lot of these songs for personal reasons rather than because of their musical quality. Some of them are favorite songs from childhood. Some are songs from video games that I love. Some remind me of books or people or locations or certain times in my life. I've tried to add this information to the song's page, so if you are interested in the reason why the song is on the list, click on the song title. I've also added videos or embedded music players, so that you can listen to most of the songs.
This obviously isn't the definitive list of my favorite songs ever. I can see songs that are missing, and a list of one hundred seems like it isn't enough anyway. However, this list does represent a snapshot of how I feel about certain songs at a certain moment in time. I look forward to seeing how the list changes in the future.
